Adult Learning Scheme (Word Aid)
Word Aid, the County Kilkenny Adult Literacy Scheme, is a free, confidential service that supports adults with reading, writing, spelling or maths difficulties.
Word Aid holds a tutor-training course for volunteers annually. They require volunteers to give 2 hours of their time each week, have a sympathetic and understanding nature, to be good listeners and have the ability to work with others on a confidential basis.
Kilkenny Parent Support Programme
Provide group parenting programmes for age groups 0 to 6, 4 to 11, teens and a Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme). Also delivers monthly Home Visiting Lifestart Programme. Lifestart is a developmental programme designed for you and your child from birth to 5 yrs. The aim is to support parents with practical guidelines on how to encourage your child's development. This is a free programme,available to all.
School of Philosophy and Economic Science
Course on Practical Philosophy, exploring the meaning of wisdom, truth, consciousness, the real nature of man and what inhibits his development. Offered three times a year, commencing in September, January and April. Run over 12 weeks, one evening a week.
