Samaritans is a voluntary listening charity supporting people in all sorts of crisis that cause emotional upset.  The service provides non-judgemental, confidential, emotional support to people experiencing distress or despair, including suicidal feelings.  They are available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week and encourage people in need of support to get in touch.  They recruit new volunteers twice a year in the Spring and Autumn.  Training is essential and is conducted over a six month period.  Volunteers commit to doing one 3 hour duty per week and also a regular overnight duty.  Commitment and confidentiality are the cornerstones of the Samaritan organisation.  For an application form phone, write or call in.
