Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)
VTOS provides people who are unemployed with a range of learning options from the practical to the academic. Programmes on offer are Certificate in Information Processing (FETAC Level 5), Certificate in Information Technology / E-Business (FETAC Level 5), City and Guilds Awards, Leaving Certificate, Junior Certificate Options ECDL and Woodcarving.

Third Level

 
Although Kilkenny does not have its own third level institution, the Kilkenny Campus of National University of Ireland (NUI) Maynooth offers a wide range of third level courses from Certificate to Degree level. Details of courses on offer are listed in this A to Z section. The surrounding counties of Carlow, Tipperary and Waterford have third level institutions, so if you have the time and means to travel, then there are endless choices of Third Level courses.

FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Sports & Recreation (DSRXX)
Level 1 Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (University of Limerick)
A one-year, full-time course. Aims to develop skills and knowledge necessary for a career in the leisure industry. Students pursue Level 5 in Sport & Recreation from FETAC and the Exercise and Fitness Level 1 award offered by the National Council for Exercise and Fitness (NCEF), accredited by University of Limerick.
 

Security

 
FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Security Studies (CSSXX)
A one-year, FETAC certified, full-time course that prepares students for entry into the Security Industry in positions such as static guarding, mobile security patrols, retail security and security for special events. In addition, it may offer successful graduates the opportunity to progress further to An Garda Siochana, Defense Forces and the Prison Service. PSA, Safe Pass and manual handling certification will be made available to students.

Philosophy

 
School of Philosophy and Economic Science
Course on Practical Philosophy, exploring the meaning of wisdom, truth, consciousness, the real nature of man and what inhibits his development. Offered three times a year, commencing in September, January and April. Run over 12 weeks, one evening a week.
