Back to Education Initiative (BTEI)
BTEI provides free FETAC accredited part-time learning opportunities for young people and adults who meet the BTEI eligibility criteria. Priority is given to those with no formal education (less than Leaving Certificate standard of education). Unwaged participants with Leaving Certificate standard of education who are in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment and/or Medical Card and/or signing for credits are also eligible to take part free of charge.
 
Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the city and county, and are offered throughout the year on a flexible part-time basis in the mornings, afternoons, evenings or at weekends.  Courses will run during 2010/2011 (subject to demand) in: Kilkenny City, Castlecomer, Graiguenamanagh, Goresbridge and Piltown.  Additional courses will be offered elsewhere, subject to demand.
 
Modules/programmes on offer include: Computers for Beginners, Art and Crafts, Communications, Gardening, Personal Development, Family Health, Introduction to Childcare, Introduction to Healthcare Support, Introduction to Business, Administration and Information and Communications Studies, Computers for Improvers, Stone Craft, Horticulture, Childcare including Special Needs, Healthcare Support.
 
NB: Due to the high demand for places only applicants who meet the BTEI eligibility criteria will be offered places during the 2010/2011 funding year.
